Food Additives

Hello,
I have been doing a research on food additives and 120 which happens to be a cochineal (red bug) in food or drinks and is 100% haram according to my research. does anybody know why that bug is haram and what makes it haram? its soo hard to keep away from this 120 additive because nearly anything red, orange, yellow and pink drinks and lollies have this number.....
